Well.Where do I start? Right now it's 12:03am on September 11th 2002.It's been a year.God damn it's been a year.Almost A year that is.Few hours.I don't know where i'm going to go with this,so bear with me.Some people say "move on","it's old news."I do and I don't want to move on.Why? I'm not entirely sure. That day showcased the best and worst in humanity. It was a day I want to remember..and forget.I could have done more.People say there wasn't much I could have done, but I don't know,I should have at least tried.I'm not Superman,I know that, but I still feel like I could have done more then sit here and play Information Oracle. It still feels surreal and alien looking out over the harbor and not seeing them.In a way I want them back, but I really would like to see them leave it the way it is."Mayor" Bloomberg says we should build and not remember the site as a cemetery. It already is a cemetery,it always will be one.I don't know.I don't know why I haven't healed from this,I really don't.I didn't lose anyone directly related to me.One of my friends father's is a police officer, and hes alive.Same friend's unle is a firefighter in Ladder 6.They were trapped inside after the tower fell.On top of them. They made it out fine..physically that is.So why is this bugging me? I don't want to forget. But I don't want to be consumed with this guilt forever. Why the hell did this happen? It's been asked and "answered" again and again but I still can't process why and how anyone thought this was a good thing?David Letterman said;"people say they were zealots fueled by religous fervor.And..if you live to be a thousand will that make any sense? Will that make ant goddamned sense?"He was right. It makes zero sense, and I don't think it ever will. All I know is over 2000 people are dead and they didn't deserve to die and I would glady take their place. Two buildings are gone.Victims of a madman's insane teachings.
I'm not gonna go into some anti-government "they should have known and ashould have done something" rant,at least it's not my intention, but if I do,oh well.If they knew like certian people say they did, then they should have done something, but I really don't know what to say.Did our government fail us? Maybe. It could have been worse. How exactly do you prevent this?Put everyone and everything in the country under lockdown? No.That's not how we do it in this county.I really don't want to know what they could have done.It happened and it's over with now. What is the government really doing now to make sure this won't happen again. When the U.S.S Cole was attacked, they say we were put at one of our highest alert levels. What happened between then and the 11th?True it was planned in secret, but if Bush had any inklings, and it appears that he did..He should have looked into it further. But i'm not entirely sure that they knew what kind of attack was coming. If they did..It wouldn't have hit the Pentagon. If your the president, you don't let the Pentagon of all things get hit, therefore I don't think Bush had a clear idea of what was coming. He knew something was brewing..but if you don;t have a clear idea, how can you prevent something that you don't know where or when it will happen?
The song goes " I’m only a man in a silly red sheet,Digging for kryptonite on this one way street.Only a man in a funny red sheet,Looking for special things inside of me".The song is called Superman. And on the 11th,we didn't see blue spandex and red capes. We saw black and yellow turncoats with helmets and oxygen packs. We didn't see utility belts with capes and cowls. We saw navy blue shirts with badges and flashlights. There were no Amazon princesses..There were medical scrubs and stretchers. They are indeed the real heroes. Some people seem to be forgetting this. They think "Ok,it's been a year, can I call cop's pig's again?"Why? Why do people want to forget?Come on..Give me an answer. So the police hassle you because you made a wrong turn in your car.Big deal, that's no reason to hate or dislike them.Let's backtrack a little.Let's say the police didn't hassle you.You amke the turn and get into an acident.Becuase the police weren't there.True it's a bit far fetched, but it's stil a possibilty. They chose to do there job's becasue the like helping people.Firefighters, paramedics,do you think all of these people get paid good? Do you think they are in it for the money? There are many, many more job's that pay waaaay better, but they don't want them. Why? Because they want to help people, they enjoy helping people, wether it is a police officer giving you directions or a firefighter getting your cat out of a tree, they want to help.Thet don't care about the money like these money grubbing bastard who complain that they can't play baseball today because they have a split nail.I'm not happy with the way people have seemed to have forgotten so fast. This "recovery" seems to quick. It's taken months and doesn't seem real. These memories are going to be with us forever. That's one thing we can do to help.We can remember. Some peopel don't want to,but guess what, there is a giant hole in lower Manhattan,a hole in a field in Pennslyvannia and a hole in the Pentagon that will remind us.
What's wrong with remembering the real heroes? We should be cheering for the people on flight 93,not some steroid pumped guy in spandex who hit's another spandex clad steroid pumper with a chair. You say you still don't like the uniformed officers? What about the regular people? What about the guy at then Pentagon who washes the floors that helped an army soldier from a burning collapsing hallway? The window washer ath the World Trade Center who used a 1 foot long squeegeie to tear through the sheetrock wall to help people get out of a stuck elevator? The regular guy on the street who snuck into Ground Zero and helped dig with his hands.People were digging with their bare hands looking for any sign of life, moving debris with buckets. When it first happened, people realzied the heroic efforts and offered thier thanks. Why did it stop? Because there was nothing left to dig? Nothing left to rebuild? That's a lousy reason. You can't stop offering your thanks because a phase has ended. If you realzied then what heroes these people were, why can't you remeber now?Remember that these people ran back into burning collapsing bulidngs, some of them knew they wouldn't make out alive,so why did they run back in? They went to help, they wanted to find that one last person..man,woman or child, they wanted to HELP them get to saftey without any care for thier own life. So,when you see a polcie officer or firefighter or paramedic,or everday person,no matter where you live, remember that they could save your life.So stop and think about that fir a minute.
It's been a year, but these effects will last far longer. All I ask is that you not forget about this. Some of you may find my constant rambling about this a bit redundant, but it needs to be said by someone. The recovery has indeed been amazing,I give you that. But it is not complete.Especially here in New York. Many of you who I talk to that are not of New York descent know of my constant rants on how great of a city this is,some of you who live here don't realize how lucky you are.Stop and look up at the broadway marquee.Go grab a slice of Ray's pizza.Look a round in the Bronx zoo.If there is one good thing I can think of that has come of this attack for NYC,it is that the spirit of the city has rebounded, not completely, which is good, but it has rebounded to such a deegree that everytime I walk outside,I can't help but feel how lucky I am to be living here, and I have heard hundreds of people say the same thing.Sometimes you can't just explain how great it is.I saw a quote online somewhere that said "People in L.A. will pretend to like you when they really hate you, whereas people in N.Y.C will pretend to hate you when they really like you."You just can't beat that.No where else can you find such a diverse and eclectic mix of everything under the sun.Let everyone else say how great America is,everyone knows we rock, but people seem to forget that New York City is the greatest city in the world.I've been urging people to come and expierence how great it is,and I don't want to stop, that's how proud I am of living here.

So,I'm gonna try and wrap it up here the best I can.Don't forget, but don't let it run your life,Just take some time out of your life and realize that a great tragedy did happen. It's not a dream,it can't and shouldn't be shuned away.Ralph Waldo Emerson said; "The wise man in the storm prays god,not for safety from danger, but for deliverance from fear".We can't live in fear, but what I am urging you to do,all I am is urging you to do is to remember. If for no other reason then not to forget.
