This comes from NY1.com::

"Every few days, NY1 filters through nominations sent from our viewers to decide who will be the New Yorker of the Week. Well, given the events of the past few days, selecting this week's winner was quite easy.

In classic New York style, they were there. When suddenly the power failed, when it mattered most, they were there. Should we expect anything less from you, the residents of our city?

You were there when we emerged from the darkness of a subway tunnel, from trapped underground to a round of applause.

You manned intersections, risking your own safety for others. You gave strangers water from the back of your truck, and ice cream from the freezer in your store.

You pointed tourists in the right direction for a change. In classic New York style, you energized an outage.

This week, we salute all of you. You did not panic when crossing the bridges. There were crowds yes, but no chaos. After all, we survived more difficult times than this.

And when night fell, unlike years past, hundreds of fires did not burn, and thousands were not arrested. You worked through the night to protect us, and in classic New York style, you turned a dark night into a memorable evening.

You are New York, and you've proved it once again. That's why you are the New Yorkers of the Week."

This makes me even more proud to be a New Yorker.

Here's what's goin on:::

ARM>>I dislocated my right elbow following a fall in the Whitehall ferry terminal last tuesday. It's in a cast and sling and will be that way for a little while more. It's not easy typin with 1 arm,so whoever chat's with me,bear with me for a while.

POWER>>At 4:11 pm yesterday(8/15/03) a massive power outage occourred in the northeastern section of this country and southeastern Canada. No one really knows the cause. It was NOT TERRORISM.At 3:33am,my part of Staten Island regained power, and as of this writing,100% of New York City is back online.Only 1 death was reported and that was due to a fire.4 serious injuries have been reported. That's damn good.Everyone in the city pretty much stayed calm.People helped each other out and stuck it through. It's really a testament to how great this city is.

That's all fer now.

Wellllllll.....SDCC2003[San Diego Comic Con 2003] is over...NECA is doing Ghostbusters headknockers and 88mph released some art from the GB comic, but I haven't seen much of it yet,but Netsolo has some good coverage at the HQ.Nothing too too big for me otherwise from SDCC.Which is kinda good...nothing to big to get nutty over.DC Direct is doing a Batman Utility Belt prop, looks ok.

In TV news..."Dead Like Me" on Showtime.I urge you to watch it.It has a very well balanced mix of odd humor and odd touchieness.Ellen Muth plays Georgia,a girl who just became a grim reaper. She is lead by the head grim reaper played by Mandy "my name is Indigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die" Patinkin.Jasmine Guy,Rebecca Gayheart and Callum Blue also play grim reapers.Mandy has an almost David Spade like humor, yet better. The only problem I have, and it's a slight one,is that Muth's character seems to be miserable entirely to much. It's hard to find a moment where the character appears to be sincerley happy.Ah well,it's early on,it'll get better.

I finally got the Code 3 FDNY Rescue 5 rig i've been lookin for.Picked it up at the FDNY firezone in the South Street Seaport Mall.I must tell you, this is worth owning.I've never seen a die-cast that so accurately resembles it's real life counterpart.

It's raining out again...thundering actually. The thing that annoys me about night thunderstorms is that one real loud thunderclap. On the old block,it used to set off every car alarm. Now it doesn't,but I still expect it,which is why I don't sleep untill I know I've heard it.

Now I begin the odd 5 day work week.Odd...from 2 days to 5....just like that.I smell a conspicary.But that's me....and i'm paranoid beyond belief..but hey..maybe they are out to get me...damn...what's that smell?! //runs//

Rant's apleanty,so get ready.

1]Recently there has been more attention paid to the Columbia shuttle tragedy. This is both good and bad.I believe that America and the world should know what happened,we should be informed and educated so we can prevent further tragides such as this one.The downside to the coverage lies with the people who believe we should just give up on the space program.I have said it time and agian, and i'll say it again here.We need the space program. We need NASA.The space program is one of the thigns that makes this country great.Long ago,it seems, whenever a shuttle or a rocket went up,it was top story on the news, and it was all anyone talked about for days. Now,you'd be lucky to see any coverage at all of space related topics.Maybe the news will show a few seconds of the launch on it's ending montage for the night. This is wrong. We must show the skeptics how important it is for us to reach for the stars. In times like these,we must have dreams and imagination.NASA and the shuttle program made us all feel like the universe was at our doorstep, and sadly this country has forgoten it.Do you know how amazing the space shuttle is alone? It is one of,if not the most complex piece of machinery on the planet.Has anyone seen how amazing it is once a shuttle is in space? It is indescrible...beyond belief.Granted I have never been close to being an astronuat, but what I have seen from video alone makes it amazing. The views, the sheer...hell..beauty of it all is something that we can not take for granted. But it will all go away if these skeptics have there way.If we don't do something soon,we will have a very bleak unimagineitve future ahead of us.We can't forget the sacrifice those brave souls made on that mission. Not returning to the stars would be a diservice to the memory of them.

2]The management....most of the managment at Jim Hanley's Universe is flawed.Flawed and just plain fucked up.The way the store is being run now is not the way to manage a business.Of the 20 or so employees of the stores, there are 10 managers.10.Why? That is unessacarry and to top it off, none of them do a great job,noe with the excpetion of a about 3,maybe 4.The managers disagree with each other constantly, which contributes to the fact that nothing gets acomplished,or it gets acomplished with a pace that is slower then the kids on the special bus.Employee input is rarely listned to and comforts are few and far between. How can you expect employees to want to work in a store in the middle of a June heat wave with no air conditioning in the store. Not only is it a discomfort, but it can be dangerously unhealthy. How do the managers expcect to make money when the idea of an online store seems alien to them? For a business that operates from two locations,an online store would seem to be a damn good idea. But no,the management trudges alone on their 56k modems with a 1980's fax machine to sned inventory sheets to each store, while a much more efficent digital register with counter already installed would not only be cheaper in the long run,but would allow employees to focus on customer support.Employees are not properly trained. This is not good when a customer asks for a product or has a question regarding something, but the employee canot help them becuase they couldn't be trained due to the fact that managment was to busy stuffing their mouths with food.It is due to these facts and many, many others that if changes are not soon implemented,I will indeed be preparing my resume`.

3]The Batman/Hush/Superman/Luthor storyline is one of the best storylines i've ever read and it has barely, barely started. The "new" Harvey Dent is not Harvey Dent.I do not believe that the bat crew would abondon a character as good as two-face that easy. One possible therory is Harvey went for a trip in the Lazarus pit,and it won't last.Ra's Al Ghul is not Hush, nor do I believe he has a big role in this. The main culprit is Luthor.Luthor is running everything,I mean everything. It's almost scary. This will undoubtdly drive Superman mad.At the end of this storyline,I belive the body count will be high, and costly.More Later.

If you do see it,stay for the end of the credits...all 10 minutes of em...they seriously list everyone and everything in it.They have about 2 minutes devoted to the medical team, 1 minute for the catering team, hell I was probably in it. Good movie. I can see how it was made = Warner Brothers(to the Wazchowski brothers): "Here's 4 billion dollars, go make a movie."

Also, is it now not mid May?!?! Why is it 40 Degrees outside?!!?

I don't think we should call the people who died on September 11th heroes.I remember hearing a quote somewhere that said "Heroes get remembered, but legends never die." That's why I think everyone who gave their life on the 1th should be remembered as legends.Just thought I'd get that out.

Yes, I have indeed seen the previews and advance solicitations for both "Titans/Young Justice:Graduation Day" and "Teen Titans". The first,"Titans/Young Justice: Graduation day"(lets just call it: TT/YJ:GD) has mostly good art. Done by Ale` Garcia I believe. Story is quick and jumpy, overall iffy, but not terrible.

TT, however...is crap on paper .I'm not just saying that cause it's not YJ. This. Is. Bad. The story is not up to par with Geoff Johns usual work, and the art is something out of a...well..it's indescribable how horrid it is. Mckone did a damn good job on the Supes relaunch a few years back, but it seems as he just does not care anymore. Robin looks like a fairy... He made my favorite character look like a damn fairy. And Superboy looks like a high school jock. Trust me on this.It is not good. Read at your own risk, buy if you have a lot of money to burn.

DC really dropped the ball on this one. YJ was doing well and making it self a good niche. At least some of the Superman books are getting good again. I love McDaniel's work, still not used to him on a bright book like this though, not that i'm complaining .Just used to the darkness of the Bat books. Also!!: MAY 19TH AT JIM HANLEY'S UNIVERSE ON 4 W.33RD STREET ACROSS FROM THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING JIM LEE WILL BE SIGNING ALONG WITH JOE KELLY,JIMMY PALMIOTTI AND KILLIAN PLUNKET FROM 7PM-9PM!! DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS,SKETCHES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED!!

The Weather Channel rocks man. I love the fact that the site has a 100 mile Doppler radar, I love the fact that the Weather girls are hot, I love the weather channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also...Aside from Action Comics 803 having Superman wear an American flag as a cape, which I liked....the issue made no sense to me..maybe i'm slipping in my old age..

And...I had Chilli's for the first time last night...what the heck do they put in that stuff? It's good but...well...to put it lightly, you'll feel it later..

Finally..."Wash it. Gas it. Gimme the keys." -David Letterman's attempt at a new catchphrase.

Fucking daylight savings time! Why can't it stay 2:30 am?! Pizzlefuck!
Lessee....Work..is OK. Apparently were hiring an intern. Insert Lewinsky joke here. I work with 2 fat mangers, 1 small manager, 1 egotistical manger, one hairy manager and one quiet psycho one. I swear, the store is a reality TV show waiting to happen. There are no normal people that work in this store, which is a good thing. Between the one "evil" girl and the guy who hangs out there as much as I used to, i'm sure FOX or MTV will want to pick this up real soon.

TV...good...SNL,however isn't as funny for some reason, with of course the exception of Weekend Update. Third Watch showed a promo for the rest of the season, and there was a voice over that said "One of their own won't be coming back" which bugs and bums me out. If it's Carlos I won't be as upset, but my gut tells me it's gonna be Jimmy.

You should all go to my college too. You can enjoy the wonders of the, "Aching ass chairs" and the "Grease, with Chicken on the side". Perhaps you'd like to play a game of "Find a light source on campus after dark."

Tuesday, April 01, 2003

Yea, by the way...DC is cancelling another book...this time it's Power Company, which aside from Tom Grummet's amazing pencils, is not that great a book..

Also...when at work yesterday, there was a printed email from John Byrne on the counter. Byrne is pissed that his book, "Lab Rats" didn't sell. He blames comic stores for not pushing the book, and compares us to car salespeople, basically saying that comics are like cars and employees of the store like car salespeople. We are comic shop employees. We sell comics John, I see no similarity between us and car salespeople. It's not our fault that you put out crap, it's not our fault that people pick it up and vomit. People ask us what's hot and selling,we tell them what's hot and selling. People ask us what we like, and we tell them what we like. How does it help us if we recommend a book we don't like and then someone comes back and returns it? Half the time, the customers pick what they like and don't even listen to our opinions, which is good - it's their money. There is a guy who comes in to the store every week and buys anything having to do with Wolverine. I joke with him and tell him, "Wolverine is lame and sucky",and that doesn't stop him. People told me Young Justice was crap, I ignored them and kept buying.

So Byrne should be blaming himself for producing crap, not us.I was looking at some of his Wonder Woman covers when I was filing back issues, and on some of them, I can't tell if it's Wonder Woman or Dee Snider with black hair,. Byrne needs to quit his bitching and find a better line of work, perhaps as a car salesman..
Celine Dion on Chrysler commercials makes me wanna get a Chrysler and crash it into her house.sure it may sound mean, but you damn well know you wanna do it.

Wednesday, March 26, 2003

So I was watching a "Birds of Prey" [BoP] episode that I downloaded today, the last one in fact, and i'm realizing how...important each of the supporting characters are in the whole batman family, hell the whole comic family, which makes me realize even more how insanely moronic it was to cancel these titles, and change the characters so drastically.

Alfred has been, slipping more lately. This probably means they will either kill him off or send him into the abyss. A small example of this is what they did with Commissioner Gordon. He and Alfred are some of the most important, underrated characters in all of comics. Alfred is the father figure in Bruce's life, not just the butler. Alfred has gone into the field for Bruce countless times, he has been the moral compass in the story, and it would be a shame to let him go.

The same goes for Gordon. He has been reduced to a second tier cameo character of late. A few years ago Gordon was all but leading Gotham City during "No Man's Land" and now he's all but alone in the back garden of his home. It's a sad waste. Gordon is the human side to the story and he needs to be brought back into the spotlight. Both he and Batman share a special kind of friendship(notably seen in the last part of the animated series episode "Holiday Knights") that needs to be shown more.

Also I look at Spoiler, who is mainly seen in Robin. Aside from being a personal favorite of mine, Spoiler showcases a bit of an Irony, I think. Who would of thought the sidekick would get his own sidekick? A lot of people show a great disdain for her, which I don't understand .People fear she will become the next Robin or Batgirl. That won't happen, I think, though it wouldn't be terrible. A new Batgirl has been created in Cassandra, and is well liked. They wouldn't mess with that.

Obviously I don't feel this way about all the supporting characters. Azazel, for example is a character who was flawed from the start. Why he was given as much attention as he had is beyond me. Another underrated Bat family member is Dr.Leslie Tompkins, whom, aside from being the family physician, also serves as the mother figure in the family. She may in fact have the same amount of emotional integrity, if not more then Alfred.

When people see Batman's supporting cast, firstly they see Robin, Nightwing, Oracle and Batgirl. They have grown into more then a supporting cast .People do realize that now, but for some reason, they fail to look into the characters I mentioned. So to anyone reading this, look deeper, You might find yourself surprised.

Friday, March 07, 2003

Well, Coming in a lil late on this one. Young Justice#55 came out Wednesday. And with it ends a comic that had probably one of if not the most devoted fanbases of any comic I've seen in ages.

The stories that Peter David created were among the best. Todd Nauck and Larry Stucker brought an art style unlike any other, and the fans loved it. The only reason DC has canned a book that sells as good as this is because of the damn cartoon that's coming out soon.

The entertainment companies are in too much control of the comic industry now. X-men is a prime example. If they hadn't worn the black leather in the movie they wouldn't be wearing it in the comics. They say that bright colors don't translate well on the big screen, claiming they, "don't look realistic." It's a fucking comic book!! It's not supposed to be real, its meant to give one a sense of wonder and amazement. People read them to escape for a while. If people wanted to see guys in black leather fighting in slo-mo they can watch the Matrix or a bondage movie.

It's great that they want to get new readers into the books, come on, friggin think of the original fans too dammit, we matter, but no, its always, "Screw the original fans, they don't spend enough money." Maybe it shouldn't always be about the bottom dollar. Ever think of that?

I saw "Pulp Fiction" in media today, and i'm not afraid to admit that I don't think it was that good. The editing was needlessly confusing at times, and there were parts that just plain made no sense. You get run over by a guy,yet still live, then get beat nearly to death by the guy,to top if off,he stiffs you for money, but you let him live?! Yesterdays Ago by Gina

I don't understand your ways
And every word you say strays away from the way you acted
Yesterdays ago you were there
Yesterdays ago you showed you cared
Now you're unfair and I no longer care
The touch of you hand once so meaningful
Now brings anger and sickens my soul
You've grown cold and tired
No longer inspired
Once so full of life
Now everything you say so empty and trite, Tell me when things went wrong
Better yet tell me when things were right
When you left me that night I tried to put up a fight
I wish I hadn't cried over all the times you've lied
And said you were true as you looked into my eyes
I should have seen past your blank expressions
And meaningless affection
Should've taken a different direction
Too late for sorry excuses only leading to further abuses
Too late to show up at my door
Begging me back for more
Saying it's me you adore
Why weren't you here before?
You were always at the top of my list
Every time we kissed I was enchanted with bliss
But now I see your fist
It's shaking at me for everyone to see
Why was it so hard to believe
A life could have worked out for you and me?
A feeling you received but never returned
In the end I've learned how to get burned
By your un-trusting eyes and everything you've denied. The nights I tortured myself and cried
Tortured myself and felt like I've died
But now I'm more alive than I have been in years
I've moved on and left behind my fears
The fears of past losses and dried up tears
My past fades away and disappears within you
And everything you do doesn't matter anymore
Like it once did before.

There's no more worrying on my behalf
I remember your laugh and the touch of your hair
I remember back when you seemed to care
I remember the feeling of your lips on mine
I remember when I used to be so blind
I remember the day I could care any less
Whether or not you thought I was best
Now I can finally rest and stop caring
That you're no longer staring. Finally found someone for me
Who truly sees everything I want to be
And all that he wants from me
Is to return the feeling unconditionally
Something you would never know
Something you could never show
I'm happier than you'd ever know
Yesterdays ago I'm so glad you left
Yesterdays ago I'm happy you were like the rest. I've found salvation in someone new
Someone who cherishes everything I do
When I look into his eyes so blue
I can tell he'll always be true
So unlike you...

Hero=

he-ro Pronunciation: 'hir-(")O, 'hE-(")rO

Function: noun

Inflected Form(s): plural heroes

Etymology: Latin heros, from Greek hErOs

Date: 14th century

1 a : a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b : a person admired for their achievements and noble qualities c : one that shows great courage

I think that sums up the crew of the Columbia. As it says on a plaque at one of the old Apollo launch sites; "Ad Astra Per Aspera" which translates to, "A rough road leads to the stars." The plaque was dedicated originally to the crew of Apollo 1 who were killed in a fire during an on ground test. The plaque also applies to the crew of the Challenger.

All of these crew members did more then complete space missions ,they gave and still give us hope. They help us look to the heavens in wonder. We must not forget the sacrifices they made. We can't lose any more heroes in vain. The crew is not lost. They are and always will be, home.

I was going to work with my dad.We were driving in the St.George(northern)section of Staten Island. You can see parts of the skyline, and we saw smoke,We just figured it was a boat on fire.About 45 minutes passed while I was at his job,and I had'nt heard anything.I walked into an office and everyone was crowded around a radio,I asked what was goin on and was told to hush. All the sudden this lady on the radio was screaming "Oh my god!! the tower is falling!!" And then I found out.It felt like my stomach just emptied into nowhere. After a few minutes,I ran outside with a few other people to a nearby peir, and thats when I saw it.The most huanting image I'll probably ever see with my own two eyes.Lower Manhattan covered in smoke with one black smoldering tower.I turned to walk away, looked back for a second and the second tower was gone.
It's so cold out.Michael Jackson decided to hang his kids over a pot of boiling skin cream.BadumpUmp..

Everyone on Ghostbusters.net seems to think this is a pic of Egon in a new Ghostbusters comic.Apparently some guy callin himself "Red Ketchup" has info regardging some kind of a big good announcment about GB.2004 is the 20th anniversary.GB 3 is almost completely dead,so it can't be that, toys are a no,and this art looks professional so eveyone thinks its a comic.
